STUDENTS’ "REGISTERS OF EXPENSE“

The letters written by the Brethren students from their studying abroad were often supplemented with the statement of financial means, which were given to them by the Unity of the Brethren. In the letters one could read about a carefully maintained inventory of various items from expenditure for accommodation, firewood and food, the purchase of clothing, books, other study aids and private lessons to various small objects such as candles and threads for mending their clothes. There is also a relation between students having been sent to study at foreign academies and promises they made. They promised that they would return to Bohemia and would serve in the Unity of the Brethren..
