THE LETTERS OF STUDENTS

There are over 160 letters in Matous Konecny’s correspondence which are worthy of  mentioning and which were written by Brethren students. They studied mainly abroad because there was not an appropriate kind of university in Bohemia, where they could deepen their knowledge of theology. Graduates of such studies would become church communities’ administrators or rectors of schools. They often held the highest positions in the administration of the Unity of the Brethren. Young members of the Unity of the Brethren studied at Protestant academies, especially in Germany. The letters were written, with a few exceptions, in Latin, so that the students could show their learning progress.
